A former radio personality and political analyst for CNN and MSNBC, Maddow was given her own prime-time program on MSNBC after the network saw surges in viewership of their top program, Countdown, during the nights on which she substituted for regular host Keith Olbermann.
Her fresh style and emphasis on interactivity, using tools like Twitter, helped her quickly gain traction with the key 25-54 demographic.

But Maddow's dominance on the cable news scene has extended beyond traditional TV. For much of October, The Rachel Maddow Show has been the top podcast in the iTunes podcast directory.
